The 44th Nantucket Daffodil Festival Weekend

The last weekend of April, the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce holds their annual Daffodil Festival - a weekend of events to celebrate springtime awakening on Nantucket Island. The first occasion, a very simple affair in the 1970s, included an antique car parade in which islanders showed off their classic cars, followed by a community tailgate picnic in 'Sconset.

Now, decades later, the Daffodil Festival on Nantucket includes art shows, tours, parades (including the antique car parade  and tailgate picnic), exhibitions, contests, lectures, and, of course,  the annual Nantucket Daffodil Flower Show.

The 23rd Annual Nantucket Wine & Food Festival Nantucket

The NWF marks the awakening of the island when restaurants, galleries, activities and tours open for the season. The Grey Lady, our nickname for the island, is known as a culinary destination. The NWF Luminaries are honored to visit, many return and every year new talent arrives to partake. Still, the Nantucket Wine & Food Festival remains boutique in style and intimate in its setting, true to its original roots.

Toots & The Maytals Cape Cod Melody Tent

Toots is one of the true architects of reggae – so much so that “Do the Reggay,” a 1968 single by Toots and his group, the Maytals, is credited with giving the genre its name. Classic songs written and recorded by Toots and the Maytals have been covered by the likes of the Clash and the Specials, and the group was featured in reggae’s greatest breakthrough event – “The Harder They Come,” the 1972 film that became an international sensation. The all-star guests on TRUE LOVE range from legends like Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and Bonnie Raitt to younger stars including No Doubt, the Roots, and Phish’s Trey Anastasio. The caliber of these collaborators reveals the impact that Toots has had on several generations of rockers and rappers, while appearances from reggae icons Bunny Wailer and Marcia Griffiths show the respect granted to the man who might be the music’s greatest living vocalist. At the heart of it all is that voice – drenched in soul, rooted in gospel, and still breathtakingly powerful after almost four decades in the spotlight

Annual Lobster Pot Hockey Tournament

Hyannis Youth & Community Center and Tony Kent Arena

This tournament has never been about winning or losing. I've been running it for 20 years and I can't even remember the winners.  But I do remember all the kids standing on the blue line for their first National Anthem, and the looks on their faces walking home with their trophies and lobster hats.  Please remember things like this when the game winner gets past your goalie because he's waving to his grandmother in the stands.  They are only kids. It's only a game.  Have fun and enjoy the music!
